Biography:

Tim’s first exposure to anaesthesia was in 1992 as a junior doctor working in a busy English hospital. During that time excellent teaching and unimaginably long working hours provided a sound grounding for him in the speciality. He was awarded the UK’s Diploma in Anaesthetics in 1993.

On returning to Adelaide he promptly joined the local training program and completed his specialist anaesthetic training in 1998. Much to his wife’s dismay he then decided to pursue Intensive Care training which he completed in 2001.

He subsequently worked for many years as an intensive care specialist at the Royal Adelaide Hospital and in several private hospitals. For 13 years he also worked with the RAH retrieval service chalking up over 200 missions transporting the critical ill from remote locations back to Adelaide. This extensive experience lead to his appointment as a State Aeromedical Consultant with responsibility for managing major incidents, advising rural GP’s on emergency management, and prioritising and organising aircraft assets. Tim was also responsible for organising the retrieval of Australian citizens from overseas and was involved in the transfer of Bali bombing victims in 2002.

In 2003 he joined Specialist Anaesthetic Services (SAS) as a part time anaesthetist, and for several years was giving anaesthetics one week, and retrieving or caring for the critically ill the next. Over time however the love for anaesthesia won over and in 2011 he became a full-time anaesthetist with SAS.

He is noted for his kind and easy-going nature and strives, with the assistance of humour (or failing that good drugs), to ease the stresses and fears people have fronting for surgery. He still finds giving a good anaesthetic extremely gratifying and hopes his experience and enthusiasm will be an encouragement to new anaesthetists embarking in private practice. He is absolutely thrilled to be part of the professional team at Specialist Anaesthetic Services and feels very privileged to be working with some of Adelaide’s best surgeons.

Outside of work, Tim is a passionate vintage aviator and tries to spend as much time as possible in the air! He is the Secretary of the Antique Aeroplane Association of Australia and a member of the UK based De Havilland Moth Club.
